The cliché ‘born in a trunk’ certainly seems appropriate when applied to Alexandra Lewis. Born in Manchester, England she moved at age 13 to the States with her family. Her father was a prominent artist’s manager, theater, TV and concert producer/promoter in Europe for many years. As a young child, she was exposed to all genres of music. Her Dad took her to the band rehearsals of the many legendary stars he toured – Charles Aznavour, Sarah Vaughan, Andy Williams, Michael Jackson, Michel Legrand, Smoky Robinson, BB King, Jack Jones, Barry Manilow, Tom Jones, and Englebert Humperdinck to name but a few.
She even danced and sang - well out of sight of the audience and performers - upstage behind the scrim curtain with a make-believe microphone in her small hand as the artists performed.
Music and theater is in her DNA. At school in England she was passionately immersed in drama, dance and musical theater, often taking the lead roles in amateur productions. With the culture-shock of arriving in America, it did not take too long before Alexandra was asked to join the high school choir and take her place on the cheerleading team. She also modeled professionally for both photographic and runway events when she was just 15.
Alexandra, who is equally at home fronting her own musicians or singing to tracks, made her Florida debut at Hoot, Toot and Whistle, a small restaurant by the railroad tracks on Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach. Almost at once she drew a devoted and still loyal following. She became a hit locally, with numerous engagements in many restaurants and prestigious hotels in South Florida.
Notable venues include appearances at Mar-a-lago, Trump International, Boca Raton Hotel and Resort, Waterstone Hotel, Van Dyke Café Jazz Club, the Mizner Park Amphitheater, Boca West Country Club, St. Andrews Country Club, Lighthouse Point Yacht Club, Broken Sound Country Club. Alex can also be found at local restaurants including Josephine's, Pelican Cafe and Luigi di Roma.
